On Sunday 8 October in a glamorous venue at the Town hall of Salamina the annual UNESCO personality gold metal Alexander the Great and Vergina awards took place. Among the twelve awarded personalities in Greece and rest of Europe was the president of the Association for the Protection of Children and Individuals with Disabilities Kostas-Polichronis Tigas who was honoured for his work at the ssociation for the Protection of Children and Individuals with Disabilities and for his overall social endeavours for the support of weak families.
The award of the gold metal of Alexander the Great was handed out by the president of the UNESCO group of Pireaus and Islands Mr. Giorgos Maronitis but also by the President of the International Cultural Association Mr. Ntinos Koumbatis. It was a great honou for both the President and the Association for the Protection of Children and Individuals with Disabilities.
Addressing the attendees the President of the Association for the Protection of Children and Individuals with Disabilities Kostas-Polychronis Tigas, stated that Salamina is one of the most important locations in the history of our nation but also the western world. Todays european civilization is founded on the priciples and ideals that the fighters of Salamina represented. Their fight lead to a free society with principles and healthy institutions.
He then presented a fraction of the work for which he was awared. the Association for the Protection of Children and Individuals with Disabilities is a private, charitable organization, specially recognized, which hosts and cares for people with intellectual disabilities that currently cares for 92 individuals with mental retardation.
He also emphasized that our philosophy is to provide quality specialised services that aim to enhance integration in the society, improvement of the children's quality of life and the best possible support their families.
Finally we would like to thank the President of the UNESCO group of Pireaus and Islands Mr. Giorgos Maronitis but also by the President of the International Cultural Association Mr. Ntinos Koumbatis for selecting and honouring the Association for the Protection of Children and Individuals with Disabilities and the president Kostas-Polychronis Tigas.
